Hi I’m Kelly McLoughlin, and I’m here to take you on an exciting adventure into the wonderful world of art and creativity where your imagination can go wild.
In case you’re interested, I was born and raised in Southern Africa, namely Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Namibia (we moved a lot)! I came to the States when I was 21 after back-packing through Europe and living in London for a spell. 25 years later I am still here! I have lived in Los Alamos now for 22 years. I have two teenage girls who are now too “grown-up” to play with clay and get all full of paint
In 2005 I opened an art school in Santa Fe – The Santa Fe School of Art. I ran this until 2010 when the economy forced me to shut down the studio. I took some time off to decompress and think about what to do next. I got a job doing web design and internet marketing, and although I love doing this, my spirit kept drawing me back to my true passion – art and teaching. I realized that I needed to get back into it and inspire some budding artists!
I believe that everybody has the potential to be creative. Art comes in many forms and looks different to everybody. When I teach I encourage my students to use their imagination and think outside the box. There are no rules, only what inspires you and what feels good. When a child is creating something that inspires him it opens doors that he never knew existed. Art is also therapy, it takes you out of your everyday struggle and into a calm, peaceful state of meditation and creativity.
I sincerely hope that you will join me on this adventure in creativity!
